Weder / Noch
“With ”Weder/Noch“, with predominantly color motifs, Holger Biermann confirms that he has found his very own form of expression in the form of booklets. At the same time, he once again illustrates the extent to which his perception of the specific phenomena of Berlin extends beyond street photography, as this time he brings together views of the most diverse architecture and ensembles, which record the disorderly, anarchic, ultimately wildly rampant nature of this constantly changing metropolis. He has taken a step back from any conventional city or even travel book photography, putting his photographic finger, so to speak, into the “open wounds” of the city, by which he means the sheer endless ugliness of everyday life, as it is generally overlooked. Nevertheless, these pictures paint a truthful picture of Berlin with its mixture of new and old, neglected and extra concrete, harmonious and truly incompatible.“ Enno Kaufhold, photo historian
