Su Lang Mer Noch Am Lääve Sin
„As Long As We Are Still Alive“ – When the coronavirus reached Germany in February 2020, I had just spent five days and nights pushing my camera through the crowds at the Cologne Carnival. “So lang mer noch am lääve sin”, I sang along with the Rhinelanders and we hugged each other. In the Südstadt district, I was pulled into a pub through a historic stained glass window because the queue outside the door was so long. Another time, on saying goodbye, a carnival president gave me 20 euros: “Celebrate properly!” Who would have thought that such hugs from strangers would be so rare only a short time later.
